Climate Neutral University

Kiel University’s aim is to become climate neutral by 2030 and to set its carbon emissions level to zero for the areas of electricity, facility management and mobility (Executive Committee decision from 7th November 2012). This strategy does not only strengthen the university’s ecologic profile but also reduces costs for energy and water consumption. The central focus is set on the handling of natural resources by optimising the energy requirements, the volume of traffic on campus, by conserving water, reducing surface sealing and avoiding waste generation.

Climate protection at our university
In order to identify measurements towards climate neutrality, an integrated energy and climate protection concept (in German) has been elaborated as well as a concept on how to improve the university’s energy supply (in German).
