Climate Protection Concept
Kiel University participates in the climate protection initiative of the German government. In 2012, the university has commissioned a climate protection concept as part of its programme. According to it, around 80% of the 26,000 tonnes of CO2 which were emitted by university operations in 2012 could be reduced (see figure).

Prior to the assignment, an expert panel determined the main focus of the concept development. Expertenrunde zum Klimaschutzkonzept der CAU am 7. März 2012 (German version)
The climate protection concept was created by the engineering office UTEC in 2012/13.
It is structured as follows:
Step 1: Energy- and CO2-balance
Step 2: Potential analysis
Step 3: Involvement of stakeholders
Step 4: Measurement catalog
Step 5: Controlling concept
Step 6: Concept for public relations activities
